Location scouting
When I do a wedding photography job, I always do what I refer to as a “reckie”, a reconnaissance job to work out lighting conditions, interesting backdrops, prior to the day of the wedding. In this way, I really get a feel for the location and by the location, a sense about the couple getting married there.
Last week I had the honour of photographing a wedding at the McKernan Center, South Portland, ME. I visited the location a week before the event, taking along my trusty iPhone. The thing I love about the iPhone is that it is easier to scope out the area and create a different view of it using the iPhone apps. Also, if it is raining, as it was the day I did the reckie, there’s no need to worry about getting all your camera gear wet. The iPhone also offers the client a chance to see the possibilities of photographic art prior to the day.
Below is a selection of photos taken with my iPhone during the reckie.
